Monroe, Va. (AP) – Virginia state police have charged a man in the shooting of a deputy Friday night.
Authorities say 22-year-old Trevor Ewers of Monroe, Virginia, shot the deputy in the head during a traffic stop in Amherst County. The trooper was not seriously injured. He was treated at a hospital and released the same night.
State police say Ewers, who was a passenger in the car that was stopped, is charged with malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Ewers was injured when another deputy returned fire.
