(Danville, Va.) — The National Weather Service says the Danville area could get one-to-two inches of snow over the next 24 hours, with some regions getting as much as three inches.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for all of Southside Virginia, starting Tuesday evening and extending through 3:00 Wednesday afternoon.

Blacksburg Meteorologist Robert Beasley says he expects the heaviest snowfall after daybreak on Wednesday.

The storm is expected to exit the area by mid-day Wednesday; however, Beasley says bitterly cold temperatures will follow the snow. He doesn’t expect the mercury to rise above freezing until Thursday afternoon.

Beasley describes this as an “Alberta Clipper,” a weather system that comes from the northwest and spreads to the southeast, “bringing extremely cold air that will rival what we’ve seen several times since January started.” Those colder temperatures will linger through the night Wednesday with lows in the mid-teens and a wind chill factor below zero.
