(Charlottesville, Va.) — Virginia Democrats in the 5th congressional district, which includes Danville and Charlottesville, have chosen their nominee. Leslie Cockburn is a former reporter for 60 Minutes and Vanity Fair who has never run for political office.

Cockburn says her opposition to President Trump was a key factor in her decision to run for Congress. The former journalist is set to square off with GOP Rep. Tom Garrett in the general election.

Democrats completed a week-long caucus Saturday by selecting Cockburn the unofficial winner. Cockburn has elected 134 delegates, according to the Fifth District Democrats. Andrew Sneathern came in second with 54 delegates, and Roger Dean Huffstetler came in third with 43 delegates.
