(Danville, VA)  – Dr Gary Miller questioned the full-service status vote for LifeCare Medical transports after the company took 53 minutes to respond to a 911 call earlier this month.  The councilman had a patient in his office who showed signs of suffering a stroke, and after multiple calls to dispatch it still took close to an hour before anyone showed up.

LifeCare who had been operating on a temporary permit since its arrival was granted full-service status in a 6-3 vote despite Miller’s concerns.  Fire Chief David Eagle said that “This was an isolated event” and it was a miscommunication between dispatchers and the ambulance operator.

CEO Wesley Nelson’s statement in regards to the incident “We have taken action to improve communication between us and the city of Danville. We’re certainly committed to helping whenever the city of Danville needs us.”
