(Eden, N.C.) — An Eden woman remains jailed following her arrest Monday night after police say she left her two small children in her hot car for nearly thirty minutes.

Officers responded to the Walmart on East Arbor Lane in Eden just before 8 p.m. Monday after receiving a report that two children, ages 8 and 2, had been left unattended in a car by their mother.

Both children were taken to UNC Rockingham for evaluation, but neither is believed to have been affected by the heat. Both were later released to family members.

The mother, 28-year-old Heather Renee Wilson, was arrested and charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse. She was placed in the Rockingham County jail under a $10,000 bond.

Wilson is scheduled for a first appearance on Aug. 1 in Rockingham County District Court.
