(Washington) — A man who served one term as Southside’s 5th District Congressman has a new job. 44-year-old Tom Perrillo has been named executive director of George Soros’ Open Society Foundations, a massive grant-making network funded by the billionaire philanthropist. In that capacity, Perriello will be in charge of the program that manages all grant-making related to the organization’s work in the United States, which annually amounts to $100 million.

The 44-year-old Perriello told the Roanoke Times he hopes his work with the group will help make a difference in the lives of Americans in a time marked by fear and division. Prior to serving in Congress, Perriello had a background in nonprofits.

Soros was among more than a dozen left-leaning critics of President Trump who recently received a pipe bomb in the mail.
