(Danville, Va.) — Steve Scott completed a 36-mile run from Greensboro to Danville Saturday afternoon as a preview of things to come.
Scott started at the Sheetz in Greensboro at 7:30 a.m. and ran to the Sheetz on Riverside Drive in Danville at 1:30 p.m. in his effort to raise money for a more ambitious goal: 7 marathons, on 7 continents, in 7 days. He was accompanied on the run through Danville by cancer survivor Jenna Belcher.
By competing in the marathons next year, Scott hopes to collect $100,000 for the Danville-Pittsylvania Cancer Association, while raising awareness about the deadly disease and its toll on families like his own. Steve Scott’s mother is a cancer survivor.
His marathon trek will begin in Antarctica and finish in Miami. Scott plans to run 183 miles and spend close to 63 hours on planes between race locations.
