(Danville, VA) – Virginia Senator Mark Warner was in Danville Thursday morning to meet with city leaders to discuss economic growth opportunities for this area and current success stories.

One of the stops on the tour, was the renovation project at the former Durham Hosiery which will see the facility turned into a small business center with living space in the upper floors, the Senator harkened back to his time as Governor of the Commonwealth, and the focus on the necessity of partnership between Danville City and Pittsylvania County, for continued growth.  Primary in his example was the Creation of the Institute of Advanced Learning and Research, along with the success of The Launch Place.

Senator Warner also spoke about the opportunities for the city as it continues its Renaissance from primarily tobacco to more of an industrial setting for businesses expanding from Europe to the Danville and surrounding areas.  Some of the ways this could be achieved is through the land bank legislation voted on recently by City Council and other tax credits.
