(Patrick County, Va.) — Sheriff’s Deputies found guns, meth, cash and knives as they broke up the cockfighting operation on Long Branch Road in Patrick County. More than 70 arrests were made during the Saturday raid.

WXII reports that Investigators executed a search warrant at a home on the 400 block of Long Branch Road in Claudeville as part of an 18-month investigation. Detectives say their investigation showed that the cockfighting ring had ties to people from Mexico and people from as far as Texas and Georgia would travel to Claudeville to engage in the activity.

Sheriff Dan Smith said those involved in the cockfighting ring have ties to the Mexican drug cartel and ICE has been contacted.

Cock fighting is classified as a felony under Virginia law.
