Bassett, Va. – Henry County’s Sheriff’s deputies have uncovered an illegal marijuana growing operation with ties to Miami, Florida.

The home in Bassett had been converted into a greenhouse complete with grow lights, heating and cooling systems, hydroponic fertilization, carbon dioxide enhancers and ventilation. The home also contained equipment used in the harvesting and processing of marijuana.

After noticing suspicious activity outside the home on Virginia Ave., police got a search warrant. Officers found over 400 plants in different stages and about 20 pounds of marijuana buds that were ready for distribution. Sheriff Lane Perry estimates the street value of the pot at about $1.3 million.

It’s not known if any of the plants had been sold.

The unoccupied home belongs to an individual in Florida.  The Sheriff’s Office is working to locate the owner at this time.
