DANVILLE, Va. – An airplane ran off the end of the runway at Danville Regional Airport Wednesday afternoon.

The pilot was taxiing to the runway for takeoff when he lost control of the single engine, Grumman Cheetah and it ran into a ditch.

The pilot and two passengers exited the airplane on their own and said they were uninjured; however, the airplane was severely damaged.

Virginia State Police were on scene and are investigating the incident.
