DANVILLE, Va. – The names of the two people killed in a Wednesday afternoon wreck on South Main Street are being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Danville Police say the accident happened just after 5 p.m. when a 2004 Nissan Altima pulled from Updike Place and into the path of a 2014 GMC Denali pickup truck, in front of the Dollar General store.

The pickup was traveling in the southbound lane of South Main Street when the vehicles collided. The driver of the pickup truck walked away, uninjured. Both passengers in Nissan died at the scene.

The wreck closed a portion of the busy thoroughfare as police, fire and rescue units responded to the accident.

Virginia State Police are assisting with the investigation.
