State Police back at scene of double homicide

HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State troopers searched en masse in the Elmo area of Halifax County Wednesday, looking for evidence in the weekend murders of a young couple from Alexandria, Va. Both were found dead in the median of Route 58 near Turbeville early Saturday morning.

There was a shooting at the crime scene, but it is not known if the murder victims died by gunfire. Officers canvassed a wooded area along the highway on foot Wednesday but it is not known if they recovered additional evidence.

Police found the bodies of 19-year-old Ayanna Griffin and 21-year-old Joel Bianda just before 3 a.m. Saturday. The bodies were lying next to a silver Nissan Maxima, but Virginia State Police do not believe the pair died in a car crash and say a second car may have been involved.
