Short Track Showdown at SoBo

Thursday, April 24th - Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, Hermie & Elliott Sadler lead the all-star cast for the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown Race at South Boston Speedway.  It's the 7th annual celebrity Late Model race to benefit the Denny Hamlin Cystic Fibrosis Research Lab at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU.    For tickets and more info, call 1-877-440-1540.   More info online at or at

Wine Festival

Saturday, April 26th - the Knights of Columbus proudly presents the 13th Annual Danville Wine Festival from 11am 'til 7pm at the Community Market at the Crossing at the Dan.   There will be ten Virginia wineries on site as well as lots of good food, vendors, and more.   Live entertainment by the Megan Doss Band and Shame for Sydney.    Tickets $12 in advance, $15 at the door.    Proceeds to benefit local charities.  

3rd Annual Dan River Autism Awareness 5k

Sheriff's Night Out

Tuesday, April 29th from 5 'til 8pm, Sheriff's Night Out will take place in the county parking lot on Chatham.   It will be easy to find, just follow the crowd!    There will be live music, free hot dogs, classic cars, plice & resuce vehicles and tables for various agencies offering services to the citizens of the county giving out information.   There will be lots for the kids to do including a play area pls goodies like popcorn, cotton candy, pizza and more.    There will be a professional shredding service offered on site to prevent identity theft.  Join the fun!   

Autism Awareness Month

During the month of April, the Dan River Autism Awareness 5k Team Center for Pediatric Therapies and Building Blocks will be selling blue light bulbs at Danville, Martinsville, and South Boston locations.    It's all part of a regional campaign to raise awareness of autism.   Buildings and homes around the Dan River Region will be illuminated with blue light during National Autism Awareness Month in April, so drop by and get yours and show your support. Bulbs cost $5 each and all proceeds go to support the Autism Education Fund. Raise awareness of autism and help turn the Dan River Region BLUE!

Polliwogs & Science Stars

September 2013 thru June 2014, set your kids up for some fun while they learn at Danville Science Center!    The second Wednesday of each month at 2pm, ages 3-4 can be Polliwogs, while ages 5-7 can be Science Stars at 3:30pm.   Fees:  $3 for members, $6 for non-members.  To register or for more info, call 434-791-5160.
