(Franklin County, Va.) — A Danville man has been charged in a weekend shooting in Franklin County. It happened about 9:00 Friday night. A call came in that someone broke into a home and was shot. When police arrived at the residence, they found 33-year-old Billy Joseph Doss inside with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Jeffery Wayne Williams Jr., 21, told police he shot Doss when he tried to enter the home. Williams is charged with felony malicious wounding. He is being held without bail. Doss was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital, then to Roanoke Memorial, where he is in stable but critical condition.
