(Halifax County, Va.) — A South Boston man is in critical condition after he was struck by a car in heavy fog Thursday morning.

33-year-old Christin McDougald was standing in Rodgers Chapel Road about 1 a.m. when he was struck by a Ford Taurus driven by Justin Hazlewood of Clover, Va. Virginia State Police say speed was not a factor and no charges were filed against the driver. Damage to the car was estimated at $1,500.

McDougald was transported to VCU-MCV Medical Center in Richmond, where he is being treated in the hospital’s trauma unit. The chopper was unable to take the patient to Duke because of the fog.
