(Reidsville, N.C.) — Rockingham County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for the man who assaulted a good Samaritan who had stopped to help what she thought was a stranded motorist.

Officers responded to the area of Hwy 14 near Morehead Street just before 1 a.m. Friday, after receiving a call that a female was located on the side of the road and appeared to have been assaulted.

The woman told investigators she had been traveling on Hwy 14 and observed an older model dark blue car with its four-way flashers on, resting on the side of the road. Thinking she recognized the car, the woman stopped to help and was immediately grabbed by an unknown white male. The victim was able to break free and the man fled in his car. A passing motorist found her and called police. She was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The sheriff’s office is asking that anyone with information to call Rockingham County Crimestoppers at 336-349-9683.
