(Person County, N.C.) — The body of a second person killed in a boating accident on Hyco Lake was located Sunday afternoon, but  authorities have still not determined what caused the couple to end up in the water.

The Person County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday night received a report of an empty boat in the McGhee’s Mill area of the lake, near the Person-Caswell county line. At the time, authorities recovered a woman’s body that had been found by a fisherman.

The woman was identified Sunday as Jill Caldwell of Yanceyville.

Crews said a man was also believed to have been in the boat with Caldwell and located the body of Thomas Smith, of Mebane, at about 1:30 Sunday afternoon.

Authorities said Smith and Caldwell were a couple who had been together for about a month at the time of the accident.

Authorities said earlier that the boat sustained damage to the motor. The accident remains under investigation.
