(Henry County, Va.) — Henry County is under a state of emergency. The declaration was issued at noon Sunday after the area recorded the worst flooding in 60 years.

While flash flooding caused problems along Riverside Drive Friday, Martinsville and Henry County were the two areas hardest hit by the storm on the Southside. Collinsville remained under a flash flood warning early Sunday morning, as rain continued to fall.

The National Weather Service recorded 5.35 inches of rain in Martinsville and 5.31 in Henry County.

In flood prone Riverdale near South Boston, rising floodwaters forced town officials to close one lane of Highway 501 shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday. Before nightfall, floodwaters were covering the entire roadway prompting full road closing and detours to be set up around the Riverdale area.

The National Weather is calling for showers and thunderstorms to continue Monday night with a good chance of more rain through Wednesday.
