(Danville, Va.) – An Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for Pittsylvania County died in a freak accident in Danville over the weekend.

27-year-old Chad Michael Atchison of Danville was killed early Saturday morning when his skateboard collided with a car. It happened about 12:30 am at the intersection of Green and Jefferson Streets.

Police, fire and rescue workers responded but Atchison was pronounced dead a short time later.

Danville Police said was traveling east through the Green Street intersection on a skateboard when he ran into the passenger side of a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado headed south on Jefferson Street.

The 69-year-old driver of the car is a Pittsylvania County resident. He was not injured.

No charges were filed. The accident remains under investigation.

Atchison was a graduate of Liberty University who had worked as an assistant prosecutor in Pittsylvania County since 2016.
