(Danville, Va.) – A fast-moving storm downed trees and knocked out power to residents in Danville’s historic district. The system moved through downtown just before midnight.

High winds felled a radio tower near the Danville Life Saving Crew headquarters on Christopher Lane. There were also reports of a downed line sparking a woods fire behind the Lefty Wilson ball field.

A tree fell onto a house in the 300 block of Ross Street and trees were also down along Dame Street.

Power outages were reported on Craighead and Bridge Streets in the Riverfront District and extra utility crews were called in to assist with repairs.

Crews were also dispatched to the WBTM and WAKG studios but reports of a fire were unfounded.
