(Danville, Va.) – Danville Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Newman said Monday that no charges will be filed against the officers involved in a fatal shooting on Sunset Drive on April 8.

Juan Markee Jones was shot and killed by police after beating his girlfriend at a convenience store and then forcing his way into her home.

Danville Police were called and Jones refused to surrender, instead backing his car down the dead end street and into a wooded area, where Jones ignored repeated demands to raise his hands before turning quickly and motioning towards officers. He was shot in the chest and died. Virginia State Police said no weapon was found at the scene.

Police body camera footage was released two days after the shooting.

Newman also showed surveillance camera footage from the convenience store in which Jones can be seen assaulting the woman. Jones also told her that he would kill himself before going back to prison.
