(Wentworth, N.C.) – A Reidsville man was arrested Sunday following a chase that took him from Eden, into Henry County, and back across the border into Rockingham County, where he rammed a police cruiser in Stoneville, N.C.

It started around 1:15 a.m. when Eden Police attempted to stop a Toyota Camry on Kings Highway. The driver fled and was pursued into Henry County, where Virginia authorities picked up the chase. Sheriff’s deputies lost sight of the car when it came back into Rockingham County.

Officers spotted the Camry and picked up the pursuit, but the driver rammed a patrol car and disabled his own vehicle. Sheriff’s deputies pulled 27-year old Vincent Tatum from the wreckage and placed him in the Rockingham County Jail, where he’s being held under a $25,000 secured bond.

Neither Tatum nor the deputy was seriously injured.

Tatum faces a host of felony charges including assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer and fleeing to elude arrest.

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 9.
