(Danville, Va.) Linemen from Danville and four other cities have now reduced the number of power outages in and around Danville to less than 200.

Crews are continuing to work to address individual outages throughout the city. In Pittsylvania County, crews restored power Wednesday in Axton and Callands and worked in the Laurel Grove, Sutherlin and Alton areas.

Ballou Park is open. Wood is available for the taking in Ballou and other parks, but anyone wishing to cut wood on park property must fill out a risk waiver permit and select an area in which to work. Contract crews will begin working Thursday on tree hazards and stump grinding in Ballou Park.

Market Garden field will be closed for the winter due to damages. Boat ramps at Anglers Park and Abreu-Grogan Park will not be cleared until next week.

Coates playground, Grove Park playground, and White Rock playground had safety surfacing washed out and are awaiting delivery and installation of new surfacing material. Unsafe playgrounds have been marked with fencing and/or caution tape. It may be a month before the material can be installed.

The Riverwalk Trail remains closed. Contractors are working to clear the Riverwalk from old Worsham Street access upstream to the YMCA. Parks and Recreation crews are working to clear the section between Fall Creek and Barker’s Branch where there are washouts. The trail is inaccessible from either end there. They are also repairing asphalt edges and shoulders and continuing with debris removal along the river from Sandy Creek Park and Trade Street downstream. This is expected to take several more weeks. The trail is clear from Stinson to Anglers Park, but Anglers Park will remain closed until after another assessment before the weekend. Downed trees have been removed from the trail but the debris cleanup will be ongoing for the next few months.
