(Lynchburg, Va.) – A redshirt freshman cornerback at Liberty University has been dropped from the team following his arrest.

The player, Keith Best, was charged Wednesday with assault and strangulation. Two of the charges are felonies: abduction by force and strangulation resulting in wound/injury. Best also faces misdemeanor charges of assault and damaging a phone line to prevent a 911 call.

A team spokesman said Best was dismissed from the Liberty University football team due to “a violation of team policy.”

According to online records, Best is being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail and was booked early Wednesday morning.
