(Danville, VA) – Danville’s City Council will discuss the early steps to join a suit against prescription opioid pharmaceutical companies and distributors.

Council will meet next Tuesday to potentially adopt a resolution to declare the opioid crisis a public nuisance.  That’s step one in the process to join other government agencies across the nation.  They will also be voting to retain attorney James C. Peterson of the law firm Hill, Peterson, Carper, Bee & Deitzler of Charleston, W.Va. He would serve as lead counsel in the litigation.

“The resolutions assert opioid abuse presents a serious public health threat in the city, including addiction and death,” according to the City’s Public Information officer Arnold Hendrix.
