(Danville, Va.) – The Danville area Humane Society is offering a $1,000 reward for the arrest of the person who abandoned about 30 cats in the city on Monday.

Executive Director Paulette Dean says the animals were dumped in the area of Piney Forest Road and Riverside Drive Monday afternoon. Neighbors notified the Humane Society and local police are working with the animal shelter to collect as many of the cats as possible.

Dean said this area is a well known dumping ground for unwanted cats, and has been for a while.

The Danville Area Humane Society has received numerous complaints about sick cats, kittens dying, or scratches from the abandoned animals.

Anyone with information is asked to call Danville Police or the animal shelter.
