(Halifax County, Va.) — Virginia State police say one man died in a single-vehicle accident in Halifax County.

State police were called to the on Route 40 just after noon Sunday..A 2007 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling westbound about three miles west of Route 501 when it ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

The driver, 43-year-old Moses D. Childress of Brookneal, was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police said Childress was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
