CHATHAM, Va. – The arraignment for a man accused of killing his mother, sister and her 14-month-old son has been rescheduled until next week.

According to the Pittsylvania County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Clerk’s Office, the arraignment has been continued until next Thursday at 8:30 a.m. No reason was given.

18-year-old Matthew Thomas Bernard had originally been set for arraignment last week but the proceeding was delayed until Sept. 5 due to his hospitalization.

Bernard is charged with three counts of first degree murder after his mother, 62-year-old Joan Denise Jefferson Bernard; his 25-year-old sister, Emily Bernard Bivens; and her 14-month-old son, Cullen Micah Bivens, were all found dead at 1949 Keeling Drive last Tuesday.
