DANVILLE, Va. – A 12-year-old girl who was hit by a pick-up truck while getting off her school bus remains hospitalized.

A post on her mother’s Facebook page indicates the girl was airlifted to Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The Westwood Middle School student is expected to remain hospitalized anywhere from five days to two weeks.

The girl’s condition has not been released but witnesses say she suffered facial lacerations and at least one broken bone after she was hit by a pickup truck pulling around her stopped school bus.

The child had just exited her school bus and was crossing the street Wednesday afternoon when she was injured.

The driver of the pick-up, 81-year-old David Maurice Durham, has been charged with passing a stopped school bus.
