FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – The search for a Marine accused of killing his mother’s boyfriend in Franklin County has now expanded to North Carolina.

22-year-old Michael Brown faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of Rodney Brown, the man neighbors say the younger Brown thought was his biological father until just recently.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has obtained murder and firearms warrants in the shooting death, which happened just before noon on Saturday.

Investigators have yet to disclose a motive but say the younger Brown may have returned to Craven County, North Carolina, where he was stationed as a Marine until leaving his post last month.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says Michael Brown was spotted in the area over the weekend and is still considered armed and dangerous.

The murder happened at the family home on Woodthrush Circle in the Hardy community of Franklin County.
