Raleigh, N.C. – A Range Rover belonging to a missing Raleigh man was recovered Monday off Hughes Street in Danville. 39-year-old William “Andy” Banks was last seen Saturday around 1:30 p.m. on Woodburn Road in the Cameron Village neighborhood in Raleigh.

Banks buys and sells cars on the side and was in the area to meet a prospective buyer who had contacted him through Craigslist.

He left a restaurant in the upscale neighborhood and hasn’t been seen since. But his silver 2011 Range Rover Sport was spotted off the U.S. 29 bypass in Blairs. That was at around 8:30 Sunday night. The car was found in Danville on Monday. But that’s about all police have to go on at this point.

Danville Police are cooperating with North Carolina authorities in the search for Banks.

Banks’ cell phone was also found on North Carolina interstate 440 heading west from Raleigh toward Danville.

The vehicle was located in Danville, more than 80 miles away from the Cameron Village shopping center in Raleigh where Banks was last seen and had arranged the online sales exchange.

Banks was supposed to meet someone to sell a Range Rover Sport at 2 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot on the former K&W Cafeteria at Cameron Village in Raleigh. Banks has a friend who lives near Cameron Village. He parked his car there, and went to sell the Range Rover. But he never went back to retrieve his car.

Friends describe Banks as a happy-go-lucky downtown Raleigh fixture who bought and sold cars and worked part-time for the census.

Banks is blond and 6 feet tall, last seen wearing blue Patagonia shorts, a gray shirt with a picture of a mountain on the front and flip flops.

Anyone with information or who sees Banks is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department at 919-996-3335.
