DANVILLE, Va. – Danville firefighters rescued a dog from the Dan River on Thursday.

Crews were called to 229 Northside Dr. for a report of a dog trapped near a log, in the river. The dog was about 25 feet down an embankment. Rescue teams  found the dog entangled in some brush near a log in the swift current. The owner was waiting nearby.

The Danville Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team was called and donned protective gear before scaling the steep embankment. They were able to remove the animal from the debris. The dog swam to the shoreline and was reunited with his owner. The dog was uninjured and did not require assistance.

Three engines, a ladder truck, one safety officer and a chief officer responded. Animal Control and the Danville Life Saving Crew also assisted at the scene.
