Roxboro Police Officers stopped a vehicle traveling north bound on the 800- block of Madison Boulevard in Roxboro for no headlights. During the course of the traffic stop, a large cloud of marijuana smoke billowed out of the vehicle when officers approached the car to speak with the driver.

Officers asked both the driver and a passenger to exit the vehicle.  While talking with both people, officers located a loaded .40 caliber firearm possessed by Traquan Faulker, 24 years old, from South Boston, Virginia. Officers also located a baggie of marijuana on the driver.

Before officers could identify the driver, he allegedly assaulted Roxboro Police Corporal Knaub. During the physical confrontation, the driver was able to gain access to the driver side of the vehicle. As Corporal Knaub attempted to pull the driver out of the vehicle, the driver began fleeing in the vehicle. Assisting officers were able to prevent injury to Corporal Knaub from the felonious assault with the vehicle as it fled toward Virginia.

Speeds during the pursuit exceeded 125 miles per hour.  During the pursuit, officers reported little to no traffic on Highway 501, the driver going the wrong way in the Southbound lane as the pursuit entered into Virginia and the vehicle crossing the centerline numerous times.

The pursuit entered into South Boston onto Bill Tuck Highway. When the driver attempted to turn left at high rate of speed onto US-360, the vehicle crashed into a stop light pole. The impact caused the vehicle’s engine to dislodge into the interior dash, ultimately pinning the driver inside the vehicle.

Emergency crews were able to extricate the driver, who was flown by helicopter to Wake Med Hospital in Raleigh for serious, non-life threatening, injuries sustained to their leg. When the driver was extricated from the vehicle, officers discovered the driver was a 17-year old juvenile from Richmond, Virginia.

Officers arrested Traquan Faulkner for carrying a concealed weapon; resist, delay or obstruct; and possession of marijuana; held under a $5,500 bond in the Person County Jail. Investigating officers plan to charge the juvenile driver with Felony speed to elude arrest; possession of marijuana; misdemeanor assault on a government official; and resist, delay or obstruct. Arrest warrants are pending service post medical treatment.
