Last night Danville City Council approved keeping the real estate tax rate the same at 83 cents per $100 of assessed value for  fiscal year 2027. However, many could still pay more due to reassessments that could increase property values by as much as 6.5%.

City council also approved using casino revenue to avoid increasing utility rates. City council held a first reading for an ordinance to increase revenue from Casino Gaming Taxes to Fund a Reimbursement to Danville Utilities for $4.7 million.

Earlier this year, City Manager Ken Larking had suggested increasing utilities’ service rates based on last year’s biennial rate study. A typical residential customer in Danville would have seen a monthly increase of $10-11. 

However, City council decided against the increase and chose to use casino funds to fill the void. Revenues from casino gaming taxes are anticipated to exceed previously budgeted amounts.

Additionally, City council held a first reading for decreasing the personal property tax from $3.45 per $100 of assessed value to $3.35 per $100 of assessed value starting on January 1, 2027. Another first reading was held for eliminating the $25 vehicle license fee, which was first implemented back in 2006. The final adoption for both measures will be held on June 16.
