Today the Danville Pittsylvania Regional Industrial Facility Authority approved commissioning a memorial plaque for a local man that was killed while serving in the military. The resolution authorizes a memorial plaque honoring the late Timothy Saunders who was killed while serving in the United States Navy.

Saunders graduated from Dan River High School in 1986 and served in the Navy for over 11 years. He was one of 17 sailors killed when the USS Cole was bombed in Yemen on October 12, 2000.

The memorial plaque will be placed at the flag poles near the entrance of the new Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing building at the Cyber Park in Danville.
