(Danville, Va.) — Danville and Pittsylvania County are under a flash flood watch.

As Hurricane Florence moves inland, rains will inundate the area. The National Weather Service says 4-to-8 inches of rainfall is possible in Southside Virginia between now and Tuesday. Heavy downpours are expected in the region this weekend and will he accompanied by wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour.

The flash flood watch is set to expire Monday.

Hurricane Florence made landfall Friday morning in North Carolina.

Arnold Hendrix, public information officer with the city of Danville, indicated that the Dan River could reach 27 feet by Monday. Flood stage is 17 feet, and 25.5 feet is considered major flooding.
