
The man who was arrested on Wednesday night for injuring three Pittsylvania County Deputies has now been charged. James Andru Lehnerd has been charged with Felony Attempted Aggravated Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer.
According to Pittsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor, deputies were attempting to serve warrants on Lehnerd for brandishing a firearm and trespassing at 611 Blue Jay Lane in Pittsville at around 5 pm on Wednesday. As the three deputies approached the door Lehnerd began shooting at them.
The three deputies were not hit by bullets, but were injured by shrapnel. One deputy was transported to a local emergency room out of an abundance of caution.
Lehnerd was taken into custody following a standoff that lasted several hours. He appeared in court in Pittsylvania County on Thursday morning.
Lehnerd is being held without bond. A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 1:30 pm in the Pittsylvania County General District Court. Additional charges are anticipated.
According to court documents the deputies were serving the warrants for an incident on August 9 involving Lehnerd’s neighbor. The incident on August 9 involved Lehnerd flashing a gun at a neighbor and entering a neighbor’s residence without permission.
