One student was arrested after a gun was found at Dan River High School today. Late Wednesday afternoon, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a gun potentially being on school grounds by the Dan River High School Administration.

After arriving on scene deputies and school administration located the firearm. It was determined that a 16-year-old student brought the firearm into the school.

The juvenile was immediately taken into custody safely away from any weapons.  Because of the age of the student no name will be released, this is still an active case and School Resource Officers and Investigators are still working on the incident.

No further information will be released due to the active investigation. The Sheriff’s Office is in contact with Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Haskins regarding pending charges.
