The man that shot and injured a Danville Police Officer last year was sentenced on Monday. Lucas Degier was sentenced to 38 years in prison for shooting Officer Kayla Robinson.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Courtyard Marriott on Riverside Drive on February 17, 2025. Officer Robinson was interviewing Degier as a suspect in a hit and run when he produced a firearm and shot Robinson.

Officer Robinson then returned fire and struck Degier. Robinson had to be flown to a Roanoke Hospital for treatment, she returned to duty in July.

Degier was sentenced on charges of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
