Last night the Pittsylvania County Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of a rezoning request in the hopes of bringing new industry to the northern end of the county. The request is seeking to rezone about 220 acres at the Southern Virginia Multimodal Park in Hurt in hopes of bringing more industry to the area.
Pittsylvania County Economic Development Director Matt Rowe says companies have already expressed interest in the site.
Several residents that live near the site spoke against rezoning over concerns about the type of industry and how it would impact the area. Callands-Gretna Supervisor Darrell Dalton says the rezoning is a good opportunity for the northern end of the county.
The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors will vote on the proposed rezoning at a future meeting.
