A former member of the Virginia House of Delegates died on Wednesday. According to the office of Representative Morgan Griffith, former Delegate Charles Poindexter died at age 83.

Poindexter served in the 9th District seat from 2008-2022. For four of those years he represented parts of Pittsylvania County including Gretna, Callands, and Climax.

He also represented Patrick County and parts of Henry and Franklin counties.

“I am saddened to learn of the passing of my friend Delegate Charles Poindexter. Delegate Poindexter was a dedicated public official whose service to Franklin, Henry and Patrick Counties lasted more than a decade. I enjoyed working with him in the House of Delegates to promote the Republican Party and deliver solutions for rural communities,” said Rep. Griffith in a statement.
