On Tuesday the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors expressed opposition to a redistricting effort across the state by Virginia Democrats. The board adopted a resolution expressing opposition to a proposed Constitutional Amendment that would allow the Virginia General Assembly to redraw congressional districts outside the Virginia Redistricting Commission process.

The resolution affirms support for the current redistricting framework established by Virginia voters in 2020, highlights concerns about partisan gerrymandering, and outlines the potential impact of placing Pittsylvania County into a newly proposed 4th Congressional District that is described as neither compact nor contiguous.

Late last week the Virginia Supreme Court ruled that a statewide referendum for redistricting can be held on April 21st. According to the AP, the new redistricting could help democrats win up to 10 seats in the US House.

The proposed map would place the city of Danville along with Pittsylvania County and Halifax County in the 4th District with cities like Richmond and Petersburg.
