Nearly a year and a half after Hurricane Helene tore through multiple states, the road to recovery continues for many people left devastated.  In 2026 so far, God’s Pit Crew has already provided housing for eight families and individuals still rebuilding their lives after the historic storm, with additional homes nearing completion for families to move into soon.

Each home provided by God’s Pit Crew is completely furnished – from beds and bedding to kitchen essentials and bathroom necessities – ensuring families can walk through the door and immediately begin living in a state of normalcy again.

Among those recently welcomed home are the Ledford family.  When Hurricane Helene struck, Danielle Ledford was at her mother’s house with their sons and animals while her husband, Jacob, was at work.  Rising waters quickly turned into a nightmare.

“It was two days later before we actually got to each other.  It was something I hope the kids or I never have to live through again,” Jacob shared.

In the months that followed, the Ledfords lived day by day in a camper, trying every possible way to rebuild.

“After the storm we were trying every which way to figure out how to get out of the camper.  It was a blessing to get connected with God’s Pit Crew,” Danielle said.  “It was crazy how it happened – the crew actually called me at work, and it was like God telling me, ‘Quit trying to do this on your own. I’ve already got a plan for you.’”

Today, the Ledfords are settled into their new fully furnished home.

“We haven’t really gotten out of the storm until now,” Danielle said.  “This is a complete relief, and we couldn’t be more thankful and grateful for every donor and volunteer.”

Kyle Deyton and his family also spent nearly a year in a camper after returning to find their home reduced to ‘a big, huge mud hole’ after the storm.

“We waited out the storm at the neighbors’.  When we finally made it back, it was just a big, huge mud hole.  We’ve been in a camper close to a year.  It’s hard… nowhere to put your stuff, nowhere to do laundry.  If it wasn’t for [God’s Pit Crew], I don’t know what I would’ve done,” Kyle shared.

God’s Pit Crew President, Randy Johnson, remarked, “These families have endured so much, and their recovery is still ongoing.  Our crew’s ability to provide these homes fully furnished allows families to step into stability immediately.”

As the ministry prepares the next 10 homes for families still waiting, there is a significant need for the items that transform a house into a home.  God’s Pit Crew is encouraging individuals, churches, businesses, and community groups looking to make a tangible difference to donate needed items through the organization’s Amazon Needs List (https://a.co/0bM7yDRz).

Items such as bathroom necessities, bedding, kitchen utensils, and other everyday essentials can be purchased directly through the list and shipped straight to God’s Pit Crew headquarters, where they will be securely loaded and placed into a home for a family in need.
