The Danville Police Department has announced the return of the annual City vs. County Basketball event on Friday, July 10, at George Washington High School. This year’s event will feature a new addition designed to bring even more energy and community pride—an all‑new cheerleading competition scheduled for 4 pm.

Doors will open at 3 pm.., with the girls’ basketball game tipping off at 5 pm, followed immediately by the boys’ game.

Admission is $10, cash only, available both in advance and at the door. All proceeds support annual community engagement events organized by the Danville Police Department.

To participate in either the basketball games or the new cheer competition, individuals must have previously played or cheered for a city or county school and must provide validation of prior participation.

“This event is one of our favorites each year because it brings the community together in a fun, positive atmosphere while supporting programs that help strengthen relationships across Danville,” said Cpl. Sylvia Brooks. “We’re especially excited to add a cheerleading competition and give even more former students an opportunity to step back into the spotlight.”

Spots for players are limited to 10 per team for basketball, and 15 for cheerleaders.

For more information or to sign up to participate, please contact Cpl. Brooks at 434-797-8898 ext. 2 or brookss@danvilleva.gov.
