An investigation is underway after a shooting in Halifax County on Friday morning. According to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 12:11 a.m., the Halifax County E911 Center received a call from a residence on Thornton Road,  regarding a male subject outside the home stating he had been injured.

Moments later, the caller advised the individual was no longer visible. A second call was subsequently received from another residence on Thornton Road, reporting a male subject outside who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound.

Deputies responded and arrived at approximately 12:19 a.m., where they located a male subject with an apparent gunshot wound. Once the scene was deemed safe, the victim was transported to a landing zone and airlifted to a hospital for treatment. The individual currently appears to be in stable condition.

Preliminary investigation indicates the incident occurred on the highway in the 18000 block of LP Bailey Memorial Highway in Halifax County, where evidence was recovered.  The investigation remains ongoing, and this is the only information available to release at this time.
