
Two men were arrested following a high-speed chase in Rockingham County on Wednesday. According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, at 12:57 am deputies became involved in a high-speed pursuit with a black BMW M5 on Highway 14 near Live Oak Rd. in Reidsville.
The pursuit continued to Highway 29 south towards Greensboro with speeds in excess of 130 mph. The Reidsville Police department and the North Carolina Highway Patrol became involved at the request of the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle was located abandoned just off Highway 29 on Benaja Rd. A perimeter was set up to try and locate the driver and any possible passengers by the use of a K-9.
A short time later 2 individuals surrendered to law enforcement. A subsequent search of the vehicle after the K-9 indicated the presence of illegal narcotics was then conducted. This search yielded the seizure of marijuana, a bottle of suboxone, U.S currency in excess of $6,000.00, and an AR-15 style pistol.
25-year-old Pindarius Simmons of Bassett Va. was taken into custody and charged with Felony Flee and Elude, Felony Possession of Firearm by Felon, Felony Possession of Marijuana and Misdemeanor Simple Possession Sch II. Simmons was taken before a Magistrate where he was given a $200,000.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockingham County District Court on April 2.
21-year-old Verdonte Cheron Freeman of Burlington NC was also taken into custody and charged with Misdemeanor Resist Delay and Obstruct. Freeman was taken before a Magistrate where he was given a $2,500.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockingham County District Court on April 22.
