(Danville, Va.) – Danville Police have identfied the man found shot to death Tuesday afternoon as  Dwight Montel Harris, 22, of Danville.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 600 block of Cabell Street Tuesday evening, where they found a man lying in the road. Emergency personnel were called but Harris was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say he died of gunshot wounds. Harris’s body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy.

Police records show that Harris was arrested along with Mariah Leslie Conway and four minors at an abandoned building on the 200 block of West James Street on Feb. 23, 2017 by members of the Danville Police Department’s special investigations division and the Virginia State Police. Harris was charged at that time with possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a concealed firearm.
