Three dogs were killed during a fire at the Martinsville City Animal Shelter on Tuesday. According to the Martinsville Police Department, at 1:05 am the Martinsville and Henry County Communications Center received a report of a brush fire at the animal shelter at 300 Clearview Drive.

When the first units arrived, they were met with heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building. Firefighters worked quickly to bring the fire under control, but despite their efforts, the shelter was a total loss.
