Last night Danville City Council approved an ordinance for discounts on mass transit fees. Danville Transit’s fixed-route bus service operates from 6:00 am until 6:00 pm.
The base fare for a one-way trip is $1.00. Currently, people with disabilities and seniors who use the fixed-route service can receive a half-fare discount from 6:00 am until 12:00 pm.
Based on planning activities that were completed during the fall of 2025, the proposed ordinance will extend the half-fare discount period from 6:00 am until 6:00 pm, effective February 2.
Planning activities were initiated this summer to improve transportation access and stimulate ridership activity for Danville Transit’s fixed-route bus service and door-to-door operations. As part of the planning effort, a focus group met with Danville Transit staff to consider different strategies to improve service.
One of the focus group’s recommendations included extending the half-fare discount period for persons with disabilities and seniors. The recommendation comes after transit staff surveyed passengers. The survey showed that most passengers would ride more frequently if the half-fare discount period was extended.
